Creating wood signs is one of my favorite things, and there’s many ways you can do it. For this one, you’ll only need a few materials.
Materials for On Today’s Menu DIY Kitchen Sign
- Free On Today’s Menu SVG File (download link at the bottom of this post)
- Cricut Machine
- Wood Plank
- White Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tool
- Scraper
- Chalkboard Paint
- Chalk

Steps for making Chalkboard Kitchen Sign with Vinyl:
- Use a paintbrush to apply chalkboard paint to wood. You may need to apply two to three coats, then let it dry COMPLETELY (24 hours for best results) before applying vinyl.
- Download the On Today’s Menu SVG File and upload it to Design Space.
- Resize file to fit on your wood sign, then cut.
- Weed around the design.
- Take backing off transfer tape, then apply the sticky part to the front of the vinyl design.
- Use the scraper tool to make sure the transfer tape is sticking to the design (check out pictures from this tutorial).
- Take backing off vinyl, then center the design on the wood sign once the paint is dry.
- Gently use the scraper tool to apply the vinyl to the sign, peeling away the transfer tape carefully.

The thing I love about this sign is now my children don’t ask me every five minutes what we’re having for dinner. I swear this makes me have flashbacks to the beginning of the pandemic when I couldn’t find groceries.
