I really don’t like cleaning (you would think so since I keep buying kitchen stuff). I think few people do. The problem with that is that I LOVE having a clean house. I can’t concentrate if my house isn’t clean. I’m a better mother, wife, and worker when I have a clean home. I used to clean my house every Saturday, but now that I’m nine months pregnant, and my feet swell up like balloons if I stand too long…I’ve resorted to a cleaning schedule. This Printable Cleaning Schedule is great for maintaining a clean home!
We moved into our home almost two years ago, and while it’s not perfect…I love it. It’s a perfect size, has a lot of storage, and it’s just pretty! Since moving here, you could say I’m a little anal…(wonder where I got that from, MOM!)
To help me out, I have some house rules that go along with my cleaning schedule.
Cleaning Schedule House Rules:
- NO eating on the carpet – the bedrooms have carpet, and I do not under any circumstances allow food in there
- NO shoes in the house – I have tile through most of the house, but I still don’t let anyone wear shoes unless it’s the day before I mop
- COASTERS – I think this is self-explanatory
- No playing with decor – I have a three-year-old…this constantly has to be enforced
- Wash hands after eating
I sound like a drill sergeant, right? Rest assured, I have very happy children that are messy and play outside a lot. Someday they’ll be considerate when visiting other homes ๐ Also, my husband and I abide by the rules, so we set an example (my husband is almost as picky as I am…almost).
I created my printable for my home, but I think it will work for most people…if not, I created blank designs so you can write up your own schedule! I’m the most forgetful person in the world, so it helps to make a list and check things off. Plus, I feel accomplished.

Nevermind. I see it now. It’s down lower on the page. Sorry about that.

This is amazing! I am a perpetual list maker and have always had trouble staying on top of house work. I can’t wait to implement this in our new home (we are in the middle of getting ready to move). One thing that I found on flylady.net is the daily “Swish and Swipe” in the bathroom. She keeps a bit of cleaner in the toilet brush holder and gives the toilet a quick “Swish” and the counter gets a “Swipe” every morning to keep things nice and clean.

This is exactly what I needed! Thanks for sharing! I’m printing now. ๐

I have been searching for an accessible cleaning checklist for ages! I’m so glad I found your site. The pretty lists I’ve found before had all kinds of places and things to clean that we do not have. Thank you for the multiple options!!
Erin says
Can’t wait to try this. I know what’s helping me lately is one morning a week (any morning we don’t have plans in the summer and Saturday morning usually during school year) we spend 2 hours and EVERYONE pitches in. I have a 5 yo, 7 yo and 10 yo and everyone works at the same time (I sometimes pass out lists). I find that all of us are less cranky if we see that everyone else is working just like we are that no one is laying around while the others are working. Then I try to plan something fun for the afternoon as a reward.
Erin says
That is such a great idea! I’ll have to remember it when my kids are older! For now, they make messes faster than they pick them up ๐ Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve seen many lists like this and this is the first one that I’ve looked at and thought, “that’s doable!” Thanks!

Great post! I LOVE printable cleaning sheets! It always helps me stay on track.
But, you must tell me, what color is on your walls in the bedroom photo? Gorgeous!
Erin says
I actually don’t know the name because it was a custom color at Lowe’s! I wish I did because every one has asked me…I LOVE it! Thanks for stopping by!!

I have been looking for something like this for a while. Hopefully it will help me get back on track and stay on top of deep cleaning my home. Thank You!

You are a gem for taking the time to design (realistically design more importantly) a schedule that anyone can use to maintain a clean home! I have tried to make my own weekly/monthly cleaning schedule but I find myself always cramming each day with way too many tasks and chores and by default, set myself up for failure. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Hi, thanks for the printable … I run a tight household too. Yes, to the rules about shoes and eating in other rooms. They only thing I can add/delete would be I do four windows a week to keep the windows clean. Then there is no way I will run the sweeper on Saturday or Sunday, LOL … Only way that would happen is if someone really made a mess. If there is laundry it is done all at one time. Can’t stand for it to sit. ๐ Have a wonderful day and we are all certainly blessed.

Into my planner this goes! I hope I use it.

I love lists and these ones are great, thanks for sharing! I hope I will finally get a good housekeeping routine now that I’m away from work on maternity leave. I’ve been at home 9 months with my baby and have 4 more left until my parter takes 5 months himself, and the feeling I have is that the apartment is never tidy! I get mad at it!
By the way, just curious… doesn’t all vacuum cleaners have a retractable cord in your country? I’ve never seen any without it…
Thanks again and merry Christmas!
Erin says
It’s hard to get on a schedule after a baby…don’t worry, you’ll get there!
Actually, most vacuums don’t have a retractable cord…I’m not sure why because it’s a great feature!
Cassandra says
Thank you for these, they were exactly what I was looking for.
On a negative note, are you aware of the harmful effects bottled water has on our environment and health? There are so many better options than bottled water, we prefer our tap water with stainless steel or glass bottles. Or if you can’t drink your tap water, a water cleaning system or simply a water cooler with refillable jugs and reusable water bottles.

We host a lot! We got into our new home and welcomed our 4th baby all within 24 hours! Shut the front door! It’s true. I’m just now getting to organizing my home and setting some ground rules. Meanwhile our floors are dark! I hate sounding like a you know what but how do you keep guests from wearing their shoes in your house without coming across rude?! It’s like no matter how many times I might tell the same family or my loving older in laws it just does not register and their footprints reap havoc on my floors! Now the baby is crawling and I’m about to say screw the political way of speaking. You know? Help!!!!!
Erin says
I know, that’s a hard one! I grew up in a no-shoes house, and I don’t understand why you would ever (hello, you walk in public restrooms!) I tell most people when they come in to take their shoes off. If someone is coming to my house, they probably know me well enough. I think if you just say, “you can leave your shoes in the basket by the door” or something like that, it would come off sweeter:) Hope that helps, I know how frustrating that is!!!
Rena says
Our sitter has a sign that reads, “Little hands touch the floor please leave your shoes at the door”
Erin says
I have the same opinion! Love that quote!
Lara says
Thanks for the fantastic printable. I’ve been a homemaker extraordinaire for 24 years, but this is one of the best cleaning schedules I’ve seen!
