SUPERDAD Father’s Day Gift Idea

This free printable SUPERDAD father’s day gift idea is a fun kids activity. Includes 8 fun coloring pages you can personalize with your own family pictures!

I originally created this SUPERDAD father’s day gift idea for I Heart Nap Time five years ago. Seriously…how has it been FIVE years? As you can see from the original post…a lot has changed. My kids are bigger, plus we’ve added one more. I’ve also greatly improved my photography skills (we all gotta start somewhere, right?), and I got an iPad that makes designing hand-drawn illustrations SOOOO much easier.

While I love the original one for those cute little faces, I have to say this design is a huge improvement. When I first created it, I got so many requests to make it into a coloring book. Well, it only took me five years to complete that request. I used designs from my Superhero coloring book fabric because they not only matched perfectly, but it was incredibly efficient!

The following tutorial includes instructions for “binding” the book with a sewing machine. Feel free to skip that part if you don’t have a sewing machine and use a stapler instead.

To create this SUPERDAD father’s day gift idea, you’ll need:

• Free printable Superdad Coloring Book (download link at the bottom of this post)
• Home Printer – I use this one
• White Cardstock
• Score Board
• Sewing Machine 
• White Thread
• Family Pictures
• Small scissors
• Glue Stick
• Colored Pencils – Pictured here are Tombow Brand Colored Pencils

NOTE: When you first print this off, try it on scrap paper to test out how paper feeds into your printer. Every printer is different, so I won’t be able to tell you all how to load the pages into your printer. The best way is to either read our instructions or learn through trial and error with less expensive paper.

1. First, print pages 1-3 of the printable. Set page 1 aside, then insert pages 2-3 into your printer again and print pages 4-5 so the pages print on the back of pages 2-3.
2. Place one printed page on the Score Board and mark it down the middle of the page. Use the black line as your guide.
3. Fold the page inward and repeat for the rest of the pages.
4. Place them in order and sew down the middle of the page at the black line.
5. For the faces, I sized my pictures in Adobe Photoshop. You could use any program, but make sure each face fits in the right spot on the coloring book, then print them off on cardstock.
6. Cut the faces out with scissors, then glue them on the body of each superhero image.
7. Color in with Colored Pencils and give to dad!

My kids really love drawing, coloring and creating, and my husband has the best sense of humor, so these books are perfect for our family. It’s a unique take on scrapbooking and I know we’ll cherish these gifts for forever! Plus, you can pair this with whatever store-bought gift…it’s the best father’s day card EVER! He could have done nothing and gotten off scot free…but he made my day special, so I’m going to have to come up with fun activities we can do with the kids
