I’ve had a baby in 3 out of the last 4 places that my husband and I have lived. My first was born six months after we moved to Yuma, AZ and I didn’t know anyone. Part of it was my fault because I knew we were only going to be there a year, and being the introvert that I am, I didn’t try to make friends. I just figured I’d have to buy all of my baby gear. Two girls from my church organized a baby shower for me and I ended up getting a lot of cute stuff and some things that I needed. It was really great of them and I think about that little act of kindness each time I have a baby.
With my other two, I just asked for diapers…because I moved three more times after that and I still didn’t know everyone very well. Plus, I really just needed diapers by that point. However, if I were going to have another baby shower…I’d have this Disney Baby Stages Gift Party.
This is SUCH an easy party idea. You just have each guest bring a gift that is meant for a certain baby stage. You could assign guests or have them choose. I had three stages: Newborn (blankets, a towel and a diaper bag), Baby (bibs, sippy cup, Pooh bear toy and Mickey stacker), and Toddler (train, “advanced” sippy cups, fork, spoon and matching bibs). This way, the mom-to-be gets everything she needs throughout the first couple of years. It will save her a few bucks down the road, plus it’s super fun!
Since toys and baby items are really colorful and bright, I decided to make the decor more neutral with black and silver decor and mint accents. I made the cake stands and blocks (tutorials coming soon!), and painted the signs. The signs are all hand drawn, along with the printable stage tags. I used a chalkboard marker to paint white on black. I love the way that marker writes!
I got all the gifts in the baby and toy sections at Walmart. You can tell if toys are age appropriate by looking for the Disney Baby logo (if it has it, it’s for babies and toddlers!)
That Pooh Bear toy is just the cutest thing ever, right? I love the look of all the vintage toys on this table display. I think it matches really well with chalkboard theme.
I loved the decor so much for this party, I ended up using it for table decorations when family came for Baby Beau’s blessing. It looked beautiful in all the chaos of having lots of family over (but I really loved having the chaos, too!)
What type of baby shower would you throw a mother-to-be? What tips do you have for throwing a great baby shower?

Oh what a great color scheme! I love how you have items you can use again in your decor, and they really pop against the black and silver/mint. Gorgeous shower! #client
