Create amazing projects like this Sugar Skull Banner by learning how to use Multiple Cricut Pen Colors in Cricut Design Space.
We’re on Week 13 of my Cricut Tutorial Series, and since it happens to be September, we’re doing a Halloween tutorial at the same time. Because I’m a blogger and we celebrate holidays two months in advance.
For this tutorial on How to Use Multiple Cricut Pen Colors, I used my Sugar Skull SVG File to make these since it’s a really intricate design. As you can see, I used four different colors on this design, but you can use as many as you’d like…seriously, Cricut has 30 colors to choose from in their Cricut Pen box set.
SEE??? Aren’t they all gorgeous??
What you’ll need to use Multiple Cricut Pen Colors:
- Cricut Pens
- Sugar Skull SVG File
- Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air
- Cricut Design Space – if you haven’t already tried the new program, go HERE and HERE to get all the details. If you are on the old program, try this tutorial.
- White Cardstock
- Light Grip Mat
- Create a new project in Cricut Design Space. Add a triangle to the document and change the size so it’s more like a banner.
- Upload the SVG File you would like to use, and resize it so it fits in the triangle and align it to the center. Tip: Learn how to Upload SVG Files to Cricut Design Space.
- Right click the SVG File, and select UNGROUP.
- Go to the layers panel, and click on the black circle, change it to WRITE, then choose your pen color. Tip: To save time, when you want multiple items the same color, select all those items, weld them together, then select WRITE and pen color.
- If you’d like, you can keep some items to be cut (like I did with the outline of the Sugar Skull).
- Make sure the banner is set to Cut.
- Select everything on the board, then click on ATTACH (in the lower right-hand panel).
- Copy and paste the image as many times as you need, then click MAKE IT NOW.
- Sometimes the Cricut doesn’t fit as many items on one page as it can cut. To move them around, go to another mat, click on an image and click the three dots in the left corner of the image. Select Move to another mat. Tip: You can move them around and rotate them on the mat to make them fit.
- Select the material, then Design Space will tell you which Cricut Pen Color to load.
- Place the White Cardstock on a Light Grip Mat and load it into the Cricut and press the Cut button.
- It will start by using all the pen colors. When it is finished with one, it will ask you to load the other color, then press the Cut button again. Repeat for each pen color.
- The Cricut will automatically start cutting when it’s finished with the pens.
- Carefully remove from mats (I like to use the spatula tool), then start crafting!
I’ve played around with Cricut Pens before, but after this project, I’m hooked! If you want to get all the updates for this series, get the latest deals, and join the Printable Crush Cricut Tribe on Facebook, sign up below:
