Remember when I told you I had a skeleton sitting at my kitchen table? He’s still there…because it’s September and Halloween is to me, what Christmas is to Buddy the Elf. I’m also a little insane, but that’s a story for another time. The next thing going on that table are these Foil Halloween Napkins that I made with Thermoweb Spray Adhesive. The thing I love about this foil product is that it’s super light…you won’t get the same, soft grunge effect with an iron on. I also love that each napkin is unique.
What you’ll need to make these Thermoweb Spray Adhesive Foil Halloween Napkins
- Spray Adhesive by Thermoweb
- Foil Transfer Sheets (I used Copper)
- DecoFoil Parchment Paper
- FREE Skull SVG File (scroll down and click on the pink DOWNLOAD button)
- Vinyl (for stencil)
- Cricut or scissors and Xacto knife
- Iron (I recommend getting the Easy Press from Cricut so the heat is more balanced…mine is coming soon, yay!)
- White napkins (I usually get mine at World Market)
- First, wash, dry and iron your napkins
- Cut out the skull on vinyl, either with the Cricut or Xacto knife. Make it about 3″ wide. Tip: If you need help uploading SVG files to Design Space, check out this tutorial.
- Take the skull off the vinyl backing, and place it in the bottom center of the napkin. Tip: If you plan on folding it another way, you may place it wherever you like.
- Get an old poster board or something else that is sturdy and you don’t care if it gets adhesive on it (it’s adhesive, so it’s VERY sticky).
- Fold the napkin over the top of the board (as shown) and hold the board up straight.
- Hold the Spray Adhesive about 8 inches away from the napkin and spray in short bursts from the top to bottom of the napkin. Tip: Only spray up to down. If you go up and down and up again, the spray won’t be as even.
- When it has an even medium coat, take off the vinyl stencil, then let the adhesive dry for 10 minutes.
- While it’s drying, heat your iron on high with steam.
- Place a Foil Transfer Sheet over the dry adhesive. Tip: Cut the foil down to size if you need to, but make sure it fully covers the design.
- Place some Parchment Paper on top of the foil (make sure it’s fully covered), then press the iron with firm pressure on the image and hold for 10 seconds on each section. Tip: To keep from getting the hole marks from the iron, move the iron slightly as you press down.
- Take off the PARCHMENT PAPER ONLY and leave the foil in place for 1 to 2 hours, so it cools down.
- Remove foil.
Another great thing about this spray is that it’s machine washable (as long as your napkin fabric is washable). It seriously feels so soft! If you’re a sucker for other skull projects, you need to see my Luminaries and Sugar Skull banner!
