A few years ago, I went to visit family in Pennsylvania and my cousins had us over for dinner for dessert waffles. I thought it was really weird at first, but ended up LOVING it! Who doesn’t love dessert for dinner? That was the inspiration behind my M&M’s Dessert Waffle Bar. I threw a waffle brunch party last year for summer harvest, so it was only fitting I created the same thing this year, but with fall flavors!
Waffle Bar Decor
I decided to go with less traditional colors for my party because I wanted it to look bright and colorful (like candy!) so I chose a teal blue and golden yellows and tied it together with black accents. I am in love with this color combo! Adding ribbons, fabrics and sunflowers makes the table look soft and inviting, while the black makes it look modern. That’s something that is important to me because I don’t want it to look dowdy with too much fabric, but I don’t want it to look cold either. The colors of the M&M’s and Mott’s Apple Juice made it look even brighter and more fun!
I created the wood art pieces by using my Silhouette Cameo, some vinyl and paint. I will be posting the tutorial soon (it’s easier than you think!)

Food
Now on to the important stuff…the FOOD! These are so good, you guys. It’s like having a soft, warm, gooey waffle cone sundae. There were so many different combos to try, so I had everyone eat 1/4 of a waffle at a time. My very favorite combo was the Candy Apple waffle (top image). I had it with my Cinnamon Motts Apple Sauce Waffles (recipe below), topped with vanilla ice cream, cinnamon apples, caramel sauce and candy corn M&M’s. Those M&M’s really seal the deal here. They add a burst of sweetness and it’s wonderful with the crunchy candy shell!
This waffle batter is AMAZING! I modified the recipe from my trusty Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. The applesauce makes them so soft which is why they’re perfect for dessert waffles. If you would like regular waffles, just take out the cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cinnamon Motts Apple Sauce Waffles
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 c flour
- 2 Tbs sugar
- 1 Tbs baking powder
- 1 Tbs cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- dash of salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 c milk
- 1/2 c Motts Apple Sauce
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Mix together dry ingredients in a medium bowl (flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt).
- In another medium bowl, beat eggs slightly, then stir in milk, applesauce and vanilla.
- Add egg mixture to the dry mixture and stir until just moistened (it is okay for it to be slightly lumpy-you do not want to over mix waffles!)
- Pour waffle mixture into a lightly greased and heated waffle iron. Follow your instruction manual for the time and amount of batter needed.
I served a variety of fruit and M&Ms (peanut butter, candy corn, mini, almond, and pumpkin spice). I crunched up the larger M&M’s to make them easier to eat. For fruit, I served strawberries, bananas and cinnamon apples. Cinnamon apples are so easy to make (and I made extra so I could have some for breakfast!) Simply peel, cut them up, throw in a pan with melted butter, cinnamon and brown sugar and heat until they’re tender. They were divine over these waffles!
I served Motts Apple Juice for drinks to tie in the apple fall flavor. Once I gave my kids a bottle, they hardly came up for air! It looks so cute with a stripey straw, ribbon and my printable apples!
I purchased all the food items at my local Walmart (I also purchased almost all my decor items there too, including the wood boards for the background and fabric for the tablecloth!). You can find Motts Applesauce in the canned fruit section, the Apple Juice in the juice/drink section and M&M’s will be in the candy section. For M&M’s fall flavors (candy corn, candy apple, which is sold exclusively at Walmart, pumpkin spice), make sure you check out the seasonal section as well.

It was such a fun party and a great opportunity to invite some friends and eat some candy and ice cream for dinner! It was a blast and I’ll definitely be doing this again!
