I don’t know if you heard, but Cricut has a brand new Design Sofware and I couldn’t be more thrilled! If you recall in an earlier post, there were a couple issues with Design Space that were bugging me, but those are fixed and this program is better than ever!! Next week, I’ll go over my favorite updates (and there are plenty of favorites). Today, I’ll take you on a little tour of the new program! This post is the kick off for the 24-week Cricut Tutorial Series I’ll be sharing…that’s right 24 weeks of Cricut goodness…we’ll all be pros by November!

First off, you’ll need to delete the old program from your computer by going to your control panel. You’ll then go to Cricut and download the new software. Follow the instructions on the screen after you start the download.
After the new software is downloaded, start exploring! There are a few changes and some things are the same. Here are some of my observations:
New Cricut Design Space Home Screen
- First, the home screen is a little different and easier to navigate.
- Either choose a NEW project or click on one of your saved projects.
- You can also easily scroll through the Make It Now Projects from this page.
Cricut Design Space Canvas Options
- Once you’re on a new project or Canvas, you have pretty much the same options as far as inserting images.
- IMAGES is for Cricut images and projects.
- Click on TEXT to add text to your project (more tutorials coming later on this).
- Click on SHAPES to insert different premade shape options.
- You can also UPLOAD your own images.
- Once you insert any of these items, you can click on the boundary arrows to rotate, resize, and unlock the dimensions.
Design Space Tool Bar Updates
- The LAYERS panel has moved some tools from the top right side to the bottom right side (Slice, Weld, Attach, Flatten and Contour).
- Group, Ungroup, duplicate, and delete are now at the top of the layers panel.
- You can still choose layer attributes by clicking on the layer within the panel. Choose whether to cut, write, score, or print. You can also choose colors and patterns for print items.
- EDIT is no longer in the right side panel. Everything will now be at the top of the page (undo, align, arrange, resize, etc)
- The TEXT edit bar will also appear at the top of the page when you click on an item with text.
- You’ll be able to choose Cricut fonts, or custom fonts, the style, size, spacing, alignment, and advanced options for text editing.
Upload File Updates To Design Space
I’ll be going into A LOT more detail with this, but I thought you would like a little preview to uploading files to the new Cricut DS! The biggest change is that Printable files can now be larger. The maximum size is now 8.75 in X 6.25 in. It used to be 8 in X 5 in. It may not seem like a huge difference, but it makes my life SO much easier with some of my printable projects! You can also drag and drop files instead of searching through folders for the right one.
Can’t wait to show you more of the 24 Week Cricut Tutorial Series!!
