Facebook can be tricky, but it is also a great tool for promoting your business. Read on to see how you should Promote on Facebook.
I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. By no means do I have it figured out. Starting over on Printable Crush is a daunting task, so I can definitely say that growing an existing page is WAY easier. However, one post gets 100 views and the next gets 30,000. Facebook algorithms can be frustrating, but there are some simple things you can change to make your FB Page more successful!
Post your Facebook Page on a Larger Page
I saw it when Facebook Pages first started. I hated it then, and I hate it now. It hadn’t happened to me for a while until today, and I was reminded why it’s a horrible way to promote a business. It’s rude and disingenuine…would you ever see Michael Kors walk into Prada and tell everyone why they should buy one of his bags? That won’t get any likes or sales, trust me.
What You Should Do Instead:
Get engaged with larger blogs. Create a Facebook Feed of all your favorite blogs, and then like and comment on those posts from your business page. You can do this by clicking on the small profile picture on the bottom right corner of the post, then select the page you’d like to post as. You’re still getting your name out there, but instead of being annoying, it’s flattering…so win/win for everyone!
Only Share Your Own Content to Promote on Facebook
Yes, you want to promote your blog posts, products or offerings, and you should regularly (multiple times during the day, even). You’ve probably noticed that Facebook is showing your posts to only a fraction of your followers, and that won’t change if you only share your own content.
What You Should Do Instead:
If you see a “viral” image on Facebook that applies to your business, SHARE it. You can schedule it, or share it right away. You’re guaranteed to get some engagement on some of those posts, and once Facebook sees you getting engagement, it will show your own content to more readers. This is an ongoing process, so you’ll have to continually share other’s posts along with your own.
Join Massive Share Groups
I’ve been apart of some huge groups…thousands and thousands of bloggers hoping to get some elusive Facebook engagement. I would leave my link, spend way too much time commenting and liking with very little return. The problem with these huge share groups is that no one is interested in sharing because no one knows each other.
What You Should Do Instead:
Look for groups with a select group of business owners that fit your blog. Join people that have somewhat similar tastes and styles…a group that you know you could share anything from their sites, and it wouldn’t negatively affect your brand.
You know how they say you should surround yourself with those you want to be like? Same goes for Facebook groups. Since you have to “return the favor,” you want to make sure the content those in your group are providing is in line with your own. It also helps to join a group with those that have a larger following than you.
Do you have any Facebook pet peeves? Let me know and I’ll see if I can help!

I have the same problem with Facebook groups. I put in the effort to engage with others, but it is very rarely returned.
I love the tip about sharing from my business page rather than my personal page. Why didn’t I think of that??? 🙂
