Learn how to create your own artwork with this Chalkboard Art Procreate Tutorial and download 4 free and amazing printables!
I’ve been using my iPad like a crazy fool since I got it this Christmas. You can see my Monogram Watercolor Wreaths and my Anti-Valentine post for reference. I think this Chalkboard Art Procreate Tutorial is my favorite, though. Below (at the bottom of this post) I have FOUR different chalkboard art printables for you to print out and display in your home…AND you’ll also be able to download the chalkboard background and all the templates I used to create these sayings, so you can customize them yourself!
To follow this Chalkboard Art Procreate Tutorial, you’ll need:
- iPad Pro 12.9 (I like the larger size for hand lettering)
- Apple Pencil
- Procreate App (find it in the Apple Store. You can ONLY use this on an iPad Pro)
- Procreate Brushes from Creative Market Pack of 8 (I used several of these)
- 25 Procreate Watercolor Brushes
- Edit in Adobe Photoshop
- Templates (found at the bottom of this post)
Follow the video tutorial below:
You can create your own chalkboard background using a mix of brushes in the procreate app, but I have included the chalkboard backdrop, so you don’t need to 🙂 I use dropbox to save images from my computer to my iPad. I upload it to dropbox, save it to my iPad, then insert the file into an art board.
After that, you’ll do the same thing with one of the templates. I usually draw out where I want the words to go with a regular brush, create a new layer, then start drawing with the chalk brush from the Procreate Brushes from Creative Market Pack of 8. I add another layer, and move it behind the chalk and add the colored “dropshadow” or for things like the lined background behind HOME (as you can see above). I like to add a lot of layers so it’s not a pain to erase certain things later.
You just can’t get these right colors with a regular chalkboard…and I absolutely HATE writing on one. I can’t stand the way chalk feels or the way it sounds…which is the biggest reason you have not seen much chalkboard art on my blog. It’s gorgeous, but I. JUST. CAN’T. The iPad Procreate App is a MUCH better (and less messy) alternative!
