I can’t believe it’s already the week of the 4th of July! You still have time to put together a 4th of July Carnival Party! Seriously…this party was budget-friendly, with easy (and delicious!) DIY food and minimal decor. Plus, the kids LOVE it! My small home town always has a “parade” and games and such. It’s basically the high school band and cheerleaders and some vintage cars. I’ve made an appearance in the parade almost every year when I was growing up…if that gives you an idea of how small it is. I think everyone has been in it at least once.
Needless to say, I still miss it and this party was inspired somewhat by the idea of the games and food after the parade. The Twizzlers Pull N Peel Snow Cone Cupcakes were my favorite. They’re so cute! I put 1/2 tsp of strawberry flavoring in the red cake mix and 1/2 tsp of coconut flavoring in the blue. In case you didn’t know…I’m a fan of that flavor combo!
To make these, you’ll need:
- Cake Mix
- Red and blue food coloring
- White frosting
- Blue sprinkles
- Twizzlers Pull N Peel
- First, mix the cake mix according to package instructions.
- Separate into two bowls. Add red cake food coloring to one bowl and blue to the other. Mix until combined.
- Pour blue mix into the bottom, then pour the red on top of it. You’ll want to fill up the cup about 2/3 of the way.
- Bake according to package instructions, then let cool COMPLETELY.
- You can put frosting on with a knife, or do what I did. I heated up the frosting in the microwave, then dipped the top in the frosting.
- Pull Twizzlers Pull N Peel apart and cut at about 2 inches.
- Place them on top of the cupcake, like shown.
- Lay a plate out, and place the cupcake on the plate and pour sprinkles over the cupcake until it’s completely covered.
- Tip it over and dust off the excess sprinkles.
I used Twizzlers Twists and Twizzlers Pull N Peel for the red accents in this party. You can find them at Walmart in the candy aisle (right now, look for the Red, White and Blue ones too!)

I put them in the peanut boxes, on some white chocolate cookies, in a candy jar, and in the popcorn. It’s an easy way to add color to a party…plus you can eat them, too!
I also loved the paper fan backdrop in this party. I just used construction paper to make the red, white and blue stripes, used tickets for the border and glued the fans to the backdrop. You can learn how to make them HERE. You won’t need to use a border punch for these, then add some glitter when you’re done making them.
So tell me, what are your 4th of July traditions from childhood?
